Elon Musk Criticizes Trump’s Massive Spending Bill, Citing Budget Concerns

WASHINGTON —
Elon Musk has publicly criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s flagship spending legislation, calling it a setback to fiscal discipline. Musk’s comments aired Tuesday in an interview excerpt with CBS News, where he voiced disappointment over the proposed law.

Known as the “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act,” the legislation recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives and is now under Senate review. It aims to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts for another decade, largely funded by reducing social welfare programs. Supporters hail it as a roadmap to a new “Golden Age,” while opponents argue it would harm low-income Americans and expand the national debt.

“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk said, referencing his former role leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—a position assigned to him by Trump to slash government spending.

Musk’s remarks highlight growing tensions between the tech billionaire and the former president over the direction of U.S. fiscal policy.
