TEL AVIV, Israel — In a high-level meeting held today, Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant met with U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Charles Q. Brown and IDF Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi to address escalating security concerns in the Middle East. The discussion, which took place on Monday, August 26, 2024, focused on strategic issues, particularly in light of increasing Iranian aggression and its pursuit of nuclear capabilities.
Minister Gallant described Israel as being at a “strategic junction,” emphasizing the nation’s commitment to achieving key objectives in the ongoing conflict, including dismantling the Hamas terrorist organization, securing the release of hostages held by Hamas, and stabilizing Israel’s northern border to ensure the safe return of local communities to their homes.
Highlighting the threat posed by Iran, Gallant stated that Iranian aggression has reached unprecedented levels, necessitating a close and effective partnership between Israel and the United States. He stressed the importance of working together to develop and project groundbreaking capabilities across all operational arenas, particularly in deterring Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Gallant reiterated the joint commitment of Israel and the U.S. to prevent Iran from acquiring military nuclear weapons.
Minister Gallant expressed his deep appreciation for Gen. Brown’s leadership and unwavering support for Israel’s security. He acknowledged the significance of U.S. force deployments to the Middle East as a clear demonstration of the U.S.’s commitment to Israel’s right to self-defense.

Shlomi Binder, Head of the Intelligence Directorate; Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar, Commander of the Air Force; and Maj. Gen. David Sa’ar Salama, Commander of the Navy.
