Gary Conducts Survey to Address Needs of Aging Residents

Gary, IN — The City of Gary’s Age-Friendly Advisory Council has launched a Community Needs Assessment to better understand the needs of residents over 50. The survey is available online and in paper format at more than 15 locations, including municipal offices, senior living centers, and community facilities.

Mayor Melton emphasized the city’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment, stating, “Gary must evolve to meet the needs of all residents, ensuring a dignified and fulfilling life for everyone.”

The survey focuses on eight key areas outlined by AARP, including housing, transportation, healthcare, and social inclusion. The results will help city officials develop strategies to make Gary a more accessible and livable city for older adults.

Kianna Grant, Director of Constituent Services, urged residents to participate, noting that the data will shape future improvements. “This assessment is crucial in guiding our efforts to build a city where people of all ages can thrive,” she said.

Residents are encouraged to complete the survey and contribute to shaping an age-friendly future for Gary.
