Beginning January 1, 2025, a new generation dubbed “Generation Beta” will enter the world. This cohort, spanning from 2025 to 2039, is expected to account for 16% of the global population by 2035.
Many of these “Beta babies” may even live to see the 22nd century, according to researcher Mark McCrindle, who is credited with coining generational labels. Generation Beta follows Generation Alpha (2010–2024), continuing the Greek alphabet trend that began with the former.
Unlike previous generations, Beta children will be immersed in a world where technology is deeply woven into every aspect of life. With autonomous vehicles, wearable health devices, and virtual realities becoming everyday norms, AI and automation will be fully integrated into their schooling, work, healthcare, and leisure activities, McCrindle predicts.
However, while this generation will witness remarkable tech innovations, they will also inherit complex global challenges like climate change and urbanization. Sustainability and adaptability will be essential for their future, as they navigate an increasingly interconnected world.
Generation Beta will need to tackle issues of social isolation, as technology and social media continue to shape human interaction. Experts believe understanding their values and needs will be crucial in preparing for a future where technology and sustainability define the world they will build.
Generation Beta marks a pivotal point in human evolution, one where innovation and sustainability will shape the world around them.
