Germany Warns NATO of Potential Russian Attack Within Four Years
Germany’s top military official has issued a stark warning that NATO must prepare for the possibility of a Russian military strike within the next four years. Speaking to the BBC, General Carsten Breuer, Chief of the German Defence Staff, emphasized that Russia is ramping up production of military equipment—particularly tanks—that could potentially be used against NATO member states near the Russian border.
General Breuer expressed concern that NATO countries, especially the Baltic states, could be at risk of Russian aggression by 2029 or even sooner. His remarks come amid growing global concerns over security in Europe, particularly with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Despite recent signs of political division within the alliance—most notably from Hungary and Slovakia—General Breuer reassured that NATO remains strategically unified in its stance on Russia’s actions.
He delivered his comments during the Shangri-La Dialogue, a major international defense summit held in Singapore and organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
As geopolitical tensions intensify, General Breuer’s warning signals the urgency for Western nations to bolster collective defense measures and maintain alliance cohesion.
