A senior Hamas delegation travelled to Cairo on Sunday for discussions with Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad concerning the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the next steps under the proposed Gaza roadmap.
Egyptian state media reported that the talks focused on completing the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan. Hamas welcomed Egypt’s efforts to strengthen the ceasefire and reiterated its support for initiatives aimed at reducing the suffering of Gaza’s population and beginning reconstruction.
Hamas said its representatives also reviewed political and security developments in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The group raised concerns about what it described as continuing Israeli violations, including alleged breaches of the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement and Trump’s proposed roadmap.
The delegation also discussed the situation of Palestinian prisoners, with Hamas accusing Israel of pursuing policies that it described as serious and damaging and calling for greater regional and international attention.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said the purpose of the Cairo discussions was to inform mediators about alleged Israeli violations and encourage Israel to comply with the Gaza roadmap. The delegation is being led by senior Hamas figure Khalil al-Hayya.
Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with Jared Kushner, Trump’s adviser and son-in-law, in New Alamein. Their discussions covered developments in the Palestinian territories and the wider Middle East.
Sisi stressed the importance of all parties fulfilling their commitments under the Gaza ceasefire agreement and highlighted the need to resolve regional conflicts in order to maintain stability.
Kushner also held talks with senior Hamas representatives, reportedly marking his first direct meeting with the group’s leadership since October. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace’s high representative for Gaza, were also reportedly involved. Turkish, Egyptian and Qatari officials participated in the discussions, which focused on turning political commitments into practical and verifiable measures.
Kushner is expected to visit Israel on Monday for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The conflict began in October 2023 when Israel launched a major military offensive in Gaza. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the war has resulted in more than 73,000 deaths and over 174,000 injuries. Although a ceasefire has been in place since October 2025, further Israeli attacks have reportedly killed at least 1,260 people and injured more than 4,100.
