The Houthi group announced on Thursday that US and British warplanes conducted a new airstrike in the Al Hawak district of Al Hudaydah, Yemen. This strike followed two previous attacks on Al Hudaydah airport the night before, although no information regarding casualties or damage was disclosed.
The airstrikes are part of a broader coalition campaign initiated by the US in early 2024, targeting Houthi positions in response to the group’s assaults on shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The Houthis have vowed to continue their operations against Israeli interests as a show of solidarity with Gaza, which has been under attack since October 7, 2023.
Despite the Houthi claims, there has been no official response from US or UK officials regarding the strikes. Al Hudaydah is significant due to its three crucial ports and strategic coastal location.
