Iran Holds Funeral for President, FM Amir

A funeral prayer was held Wednesday in Tehran for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials who perished in a helicopter crash on Sunday. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led the prayer at Tehran University, drawing thousands of attendees who eagerly awaited entry into the limited prayer area.

After the prayer, hundreds of thousands gathered in Revolution Square (Enghelab Square) and surrounding roads to attend the funeral ceremony in Azadi Square. Due to the massive turnout, officials directed the public from Azadi Street to Azadi Square for the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, President Raisi’s body will be transported to Mashhad, while Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian’s body will be buried in Tehran. The burial procedures are scheduled for Thursday.

The tragic crash occurred on May 19 in the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan, with the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Pir Hossein Kolivand, confirming on Monday that all passengers and crew on board had died.–News Desk
