Iran Reports Deadly US Attack on Vessel

Iran Reports Vessel Strike Near Qeshm

One person was killed and three others injured after an Iranian commercial vessel was reportedly hit in the Gulf near southern Iran early Sunday, according to an Iranian local official.

Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, citing Qeshm Governor Amir Teymouri, attributed the incident to what it described as a US attack. Teymouri said the vessel was struck at around 5 a.m. local time near Hengam Island and the Shib Deraz coast of Qeshm Island.

Iranian authorities did not immediately provide further information about the vessel or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Separately, the UK Maritime Trade Operations reported that a vessel travelling through the Strait of Hormuz had been hit by an unidentified munition. No casualties or damage were immediately reported in that incident.
