Israel Agrees to 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire, Trump Presses Hamas to Accept Final Deal
WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that Israel has accepted a US-brokered 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, calling on Hamas to endorse what he described as a “final proposal” mediated by Qatar and Egypt.
Trump revealed that American officials held a “long and productive” discussion with Israeli representatives on the Gaza situation. While he did not name the participants, US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance were scheduled to meet Ron Dermer, a senior aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to Trump, Israel agreed to a two-month ceasefire aimed at creating space for a permanent resolution to the conflict. He emphasized that mediators from Qatar and Egypt will present the ceasefire terms to Hamas, urging the group to release hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and seize the opportunity to end hostilities.
