The Israel Ministry of Defense (IMoD), through its Directorate of Production and Procurement (DOPP), has entered into a significant contract with Ashot Ashkelon, a prominent manufacturer of advanced components for armored vehicles. The agreement, formalized on Wednesday, involves collaboration with the Tank and APC Administration and the IDF’s Technological and Logistics Directorate.
Maj. Gen. (Res.) Eyal Zamir, Director General of the IMoD, signed the contract as part of the ministry’s broader strategy to bolster the capabilities of Israel’s armored forces, particularly the Merkava tanks and Namer Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs). These vehicles have recently demonstrated their effectiveness in combat, underscoring the importance of maintaining and enhancing their performance.
The contract, valued at over $23 million (NIS 86.4 million), stipulates that Ashot Ashkelon will produce and deliver crucial components for these armored vehicles. This includes the manufacturing of 1,200 and 1,500 horsepower transmissions, as well as advanced suspension and drive systems. Additionally, the deal covers the procurement of spare parts and the restoration of critical systems, with deliveries scheduled to take place over the next two years.
Ashot Ashkelon is known for its expertise in producing complex drive systems and other specialized components essential to the IDF’s armored vehicle programs. This agreement ensures that the operational readiness and durability of Israel’s Merkava tanks and Namer APCs are maintained, reinforcing the IDF’s ability to meet current and future defense challenges.–News Desk
