Israeli airstrikes kill 11 in Gaza escalation

Global legal summit discusses Gaza West Bank occupation

GAZA CITY, July 16:
At least 11 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes and shelling across Gaza on Tuesday, according to hospital sources cited by Al Jazeera. Heavy attacks struck Shujayea, Jabalia, and the Shati refugee camp, where five family members were killed. Western Gaza, where many displaced residents had fled, was also bombarded despite evacuation orders.

Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary reported worsening food shortages and constant attacks, stating, “Wherever they go, they are still being attacked.”

Meanwhile, political pressure is mounting on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after three Israeli soldiers were killed in northern Gaza. Families of hostages and fallen soldiers are demanding a ceasefire, while members of Netanyahu’s far-right coalition threaten to withdraw if negotiations proceed. An ultra-Orthodox party also resigned over disputes tied to military conscription, threatening the collapse of the government.

In Bogotá, Colombia, over 30 countries gathered for a summit on ending the war and occupation. Led by Colombia, South Africa, and The Hague Group, the summit aims to address alleged violations of international law. UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese pledged strong legal action to stop the Gaza massacre.
