Khumariyan to Launch PNCA Live Series With Folk Fusion Performance
Islamabad
The Khumariyan band from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will headline the opening event of the Pakistan National Council of the Arts’ (PNCA) first-ever live music series on February 14, bringing its distinctive fusion of traditional Pashto folk music and contemporary sounds to the capital.
The performance will take place at PNCA Islamabad and is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.
Folk Roots With a Modern Sound
Khumariyan has earned wide recognition for reimagining Pashto folk music through modern rhythms and instrumental arrangements. Unlike the region’s traditional vocal-heavy style, the band relies on minimal vocal elements, allowing instruments to take the lead and create layered harmonies.
Through this approach, the group aims to promote peace, preserve cultural heritage, and present folk music in a form that resonates with modern audiences. Their compositions blend tradition with innovation while maintaining a strong connection to regional identity.
PNCA Launches First Live Music Series
With this event, PNCA has formally launched its first live performance series, marking a major step in strengthening Pakistan’s contemporary performing arts scene.
The initiative seeks to provide a professional and inclusive platform for artists from all regions of the country. It also aims to celebrate musical diversity, encourage cultural dialogue, and reconnect audiences with high-quality live performances in an institutional setting.
Cultural Vision Behind the Initiative
The PNCA Live Series has been conceived and produced by Inayatur Rahman, Supervisor Performing Arts at PNCA. Speaking on the launch, the Director General of PNCA described the series as a key effort to revive live performing arts in Pakistan.
“Through this initiative, PNCA aims to offer sustained opportunities for artists from all provinces, promote cultural harmony, and showcase Pakistan’s diverse artistic expressions to wider audiences,” the director general said. He added that Khumariyan’s music reflects the balance between tradition and creative evolution, making the band an ideal choice for the inaugural performance.
A Continuing Cultural Programme
Inayatur Rahman noted that the live series will continue beyond its first edition, with future events featuring artists from different regions, genres, and artistic backgrounds.
The programme aligns with PNCA’s broader mandate to preserve and promote Pakistan’s performing arts while encouraging contemporary interpretation and creative growth. Upcoming editions will bring performers from across the country, reinforcing national integration through culture and strengthening PNCA’s role as a leading arts institution.
Through this initiative, PNCA reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing talent, supporting innovation, and offering audiences meaningful live music experiences.
