Rawalpindi on High Alert After PTI Strike Call

Rawalpindi

Authorities placed Rawalpindi on high alert on Monday in response to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) strike call and the possibility of protests, as officials moved to prevent any disruption to public order.

To strengthen security, police deployed more than 4,300 officers and personnel across the city on special duty. At the same time, authorities suspended the Metro Bus service operating between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Security Deployment Across the City

Police established special pickets at 82 locations and intensified checking at all major entry and exit points. Senior police officers remained in the field to directly supervise security and traffic arrangements.

Officials said the force would take strict action against anyone attempting to block roads or disturb daily life. To reinforce preparedness, police also conducted a flag march across key areas of the city.

Section 144 Enforced

City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani said authorities have enforced Section 144 in Rawalpindi and are ensuring its strict implementation. He stated that police will not allow any illegal gathering, sit-in, or rally at any location.

In addition, officials have banned double riding as part of preventive measures. CPO Hamdani warned that police would deal firmly with any violation of the law, adding that maintaining peace and protecting citizens remain the top priority.

Patrols and Surveillance Intensified

Police have increased patrols through mobile units from police stations, along with Elite Force and Dolphin Force teams. Meanwhile, Safe City cameras and other surveillance systems continue to monitor the situation around the clock.

Authorities said these measures aim to ensure swift response to any untoward incident and to maintain normal civic life.

Flag March Demonstrates Readiness

Earlier, Rawalpindi Police conducted a flag march under the leadership of SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob. The march began at Police Headquarters and passed through Ammar Chowk, Rawal Road, Shaheen Chowk, Chandni Chowk, Double Road, Faizabad, Committee Chowk, Liaquat Bagh, Peshawar Road, Chohar Chowk, Adiala Road, and surrounding areas before returning to Police Lines.

Senior officers, including the SSP Investigation, Chief Traffic Officer, divisional SPs, SDPOs, SHOs, and other officials, participated in the march. Police officials said the exercise aimed to demonstrate the force’s resolve to maintain law and order and reassure the public.
