Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Sunday accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of failing to demonstrate a willingness to pursue peace negotiations with Russia.
Speaking to the Vesti media outlet, Peskov claimed that Zelenskyy was acting emotionally and was unable to make measured decisions. He argued that a genuine commitment to peace would be reflected in efforts to begin negotiations with Moscow.
Peskov also accused the Ukrainian leader of seeking additional assistance from Western allies, including funding for air defence systems, long-range weapons and access to Starlink infrastructure, which he claimed could support Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russian territory.
He further criticized Kyiv’s approach toward Moscow, warning that attempting to confront Russia through what he described as aggression would have serious consequences for Ukraine. Peskov maintained that the country was already experiencing the effects of this strategy.
The remarks came two days after US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation reportedly addressing diesel supplies to the United States and international markets.
Trump subsequently announced on Truth Social that Russia had agreed to supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately. He said an additional 500,000 tonnes would be delivered in November, followed by another one million tonnes and a further three million tonnes within a relatively short period, depending on the operational condition of Russian diesel refineries.
Putin said the proposed fuel supplies would contribute positively to the global economy.
Zelenskyy criticized the arrangement, arguing that additional revenue from Russian exports could strengthen Moscow’s military capabilities. He warned that the money could finance weapons production, improvements to Shahed drones, missile manufacturing and the recruitment of foreign fighters. He urged Ukraine’s international partners to take measures to limit Russia’s ability to continue the war.
On Saturday, Trump also called for Ukraine to elect a new president, claiming that Zelenskyy had repeatedly failed to secure an agreement to end the conflict. Trump argued that Ukraine could have reached several deals but had not done so.
