Russian President Vladimir Putin could meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in a trilateral meeting during the upcoming APEC summit in November, according to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov.
Ushakov said Putin and Xi discussed the possibility of such a meeting during talks in Bishkek on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
He explained that Xi had noted Trump’s planned attendance at the APEC gathering, while Putin was also expected to participate as an invited guest. Ushakov said that, if circumstances develop as expected, the three leaders could hold a joint meeting.
The 2026 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen, China, on November 18 and 19.
Ushakov also said he plans to meet Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, the Archbishop of Bologna, toward the end of September. Their discussions will focus mainly on humanitarian matters connected to the Ukraine war, although political issues are also expected to be discussed.
He added that the Vatican continues to communicate with Moscow through its own diplomatic channel regarding humanitarian concerns related to the conflict.
