Lebanese Army Denies Failure to Disarm Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon
The Lebanese army on Tuesday rejected Israeli allegations that it had failed to disarm Hezbollah and dismantle the group’s military infrastructure south of the Litani River, as required under the November 2024 ceasefire agreement. The military accused Israel of spreading misleading information to damage its credibility amid ongoing negotiations.
In an official statement, the army dismissed claims questioning its ability to carry out its responsibilities in southern Lebanon. It emphasized that its activities had been recorded and verified by the committee monitoring the ceasefire.
The disagreement concerns a military facility in Kfarra, located in the Bint Jbeil district. Israel alleged that the Lebanese army had failed to prevent Hezbollah from operating at the site.
The Lebanese military said its units began operations at the facility in December 2025 but halted their work on March 16 after Israel threatened to attack the location. According to the army, the ceasefire monitoring committee requested the suspension and was informed that weapons and ammunition were still present inside the facility. Israeli forces later carried out a strike on the site.
The army added that Israel repeatedly obstructed efforts to restart operations. Work eventually resumed on August 15 in coordination with the monitoring committee. The facility was cleared and permanently shut down on October 16, according to the statement.
The Lebanese military also challenged Israeli footage allegedly showing Hezbollah moving weapons. It said the video was recorded on July 3 near the southern town of Seddikine, shortly after a framework agreement had been signed, and maintained that its operations were fully documented by the monitoring committee.
Reaffirming its commitment to existing agreements, the army accused Israel of continuing to carry out attacks and violate the arrangements in place.
Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli military spokeswoman Ella Waweya accused the Lebanese army of failing to restrict Hezbollah’s activities south of the Litani River. She claimed the group continued operating at the Kfarra facility and transported weapons and equipment away from the site, releasing footage that she said showed arms being moved by truck.
Israel has conducted military attacks against Lebanon since March 2, causing thousands of deaths and injuries and displacing more than 1.5 million people.
On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed a US-backed framework agreement outlining a gradual Israeli withdrawal, the deployment of Lebanese army forces and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
Despite the agreement, Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon have continued. Israeli forces also maintain their presence in Lebanese territory, including areas occupied for decades and others seized during more recent conflicts and military operations.
