Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed strengthening economic, investment and defense ties during a meeting in Doha on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by Qatar’s Amiri Diwan, the talks took place at Lusail Palace and focused on bilateral relations, expanded cooperation in security and defense, and key regional developments.
Sheikh Tamim welcomed Macron’s visit, describing it as a reflection of the strong relationship between the two countries. He also expressed his desire to deepen cooperation across several sectors.
Macron reiterated France’s commitment to developing its strategic partnership with Qatar, the statement said.
Before the formal discussions, the two leaders held a separate meeting to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional affairs.
Macron travelled to Doha from Bahrain as part of a regional tour that also included Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the French presidency, the October 19–21 visit aimed to reinforce strategic and economic partnerships with Gulf nations while supporting regional stability and protecting freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
The visit took place amid heightened regional tensions following the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks across the region and effectively shut the Strait of Hormuz. Washington subsequently imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
