Lucy Guo Becomes World’s Youngest Self-Made Woman Billionaire

Scale AI's Valuation Pushes Guo’s Net Worth Past $1.2 Billion, Surpassing Taylor Swift

Lucy Guo, the tech entrepreneur and Scale AI co-founder, has officially been named the world’s youngest self-made woman billionaire at just 30 years old, according to Forbes. Her net worth skyrocketed past $1.2 billion following a valuation boost of her former company, Scale AI, now valued at $25 billion.

In 2016, Guo co-founded Scale AI with Alexandr Wang. The San Francisco-based company specializes in data labeling for artificial intelligence and counts major clients like the US government and OpenAI. Although Guo left Scale AI in 2018, she retained equity in the company, which has now catapulted her into the billionaire club.

Guo was raised in Fremont, California, by Chinese immigrant parents. She began coding in middle school and briefly attended Carnegie Mellon University before dropping out to join the Thiel Fellowship in 2014. Her early career included stints at Quora and Snapchat before co-founding Scale AI.

After leaving Scale, Guo launched Backend Capital, a venture fund, and later created Passes, a subscription-based content platform similar to OnlyFans and Patreon. Since its launch in 2022, Passes has raised $50 million and is valued at $150 million, attracting creators like Olivia Dunne and Shaquille O’Neal.

Despite facing legal issues surrounding a child abuse material lawsuit, Guo has remained focused on her entrepreneurial pursuits. She now joins a select group of fewer than 10 self-made women billionaires under 40, with half of them based in the United States.
