Man Dead in Hawthorn Woods Fire Identified

A man who died in a devastating fire in Hawthorn Woods over the weekend has been identified as 73-year-old Sherman Della. His body was found on Sunday amidst the debris of the home on Rosewood Drive, which was completely destroyed by the blaze on Saturday. The fire had been challenging for firefighters, partly due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area. Investigators noted that the family’s garage contained an electric vehicle and charging station, which may have contributed to the difficulties in extinguishing the flames. While it’s unclear whether the fire originated from the charging station, officials confirmed that the vehicle added extra obstacles for the fire crews. Della, who did not live at the house, is believed to have been a family member. Local authorities, including the Hawthorn Woods Police Department, Lake Zurich Fire Department, and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire.
