An independent mediator has concluded that Amazon was responsible for the breakdown of initial contract negotiations at its YVR2 fulfilment centre in Delta, British Columbia, its only unionized warehouse in the province.
The dispute involves workers represented by the union Unifor, which stated that the mediator recommended resolving the conflict through binding mediation-arbitration to move the process forward.
According to the findings, Amazon’s conduct during bargaining contributed to the collapse of talks aimed at establishing a first collective agreement. The union claims the company repeatedly obstructed progress at the negotiation table and resisted key proposals.
Unifor national president Lana Payne accused the company of blocking worker demands throughout the bargaining process, describing the negotiations as consistently hindered by employer resistance.
The mediator’s report adds pressure on the ongoing labour dispute, as both sides consider next steps toward finalizing a first contract for employees at the facility.
