Colombian and French Presidents Discuss Middle East Tensions
Phone Call Emphasizes Ceasefire and Dialogue
Colombian President Gustavo Petro and French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone call on Tuesday to discuss the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Colombia’s presidency confirmed.
The conversation lasted over 30 minutes. Macron thanked Petro for his peace initiatives and stressed the importance of dialogue and an immediate ceasefire to resolve the crisis.
Expanding International Support
President Petro highlighted that Macron pledged to assist Colombia in expanding the number of nations advocating for a rapid ceasefire. He shared the update on the US social media platform X, emphasizing the need for broader international cooperation to reduce tensions.
Regional Conflict Escalation
The call comes amid continued joint US-Israeli military operations against Iran, launched on February 28, which have reportedly killed around 1,300 people, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US forces, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
