Over 50 Migrants Rescued from Abandoned Oil Platform in Mediterranean
A total of 54 migrants were rescued from an abandoned oil platform in the Mediterranean Sea after their boat capsized following departure from Libya, the humanitarian NGO Open Arms reported.
The rescue ship Astral, operated by the Spain-based organization, saved the migrants after they had been stranded for three days. The group includes two women who recently gave birth and two young children.
The rescued migrants are currently being transported to Lampedusa, Italy, as part of ongoing efforts to provide safety and humanitarian assistance to people fleeing conflict and hardship in North Africa.
