Musk’s Post Sparks Outrage in Germany

Musk’s Comments on AfD Stir Controversy in Germany

BERLIN: Elon Musk’s recent post on X, claiming only the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party could “save Germany,” has ignited backlash, with accusations of meddling in the country’s upcoming elections.

Musk shared the post alongside a video criticizing Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and likely candidate for Chancellor, for his refusal to collaborate with the anti-immigration AfD. The AfD, now polling second, has surged in popularity, though mainstream parties have steadfastly rejected any partnership.

While the German government declined to comment directly on Musk’s intervention, the reaction from German politicians was swift and harsh. Dennis Radtke, a CDU MEP, condemned the tech mogul’s remarks as “threatening” and “unacceptable,” especially given Musk’s future role in Donald Trump’s US administration. His comments were seen as a disruptive influence in the heated political atmosphere ahead of Germany’s elections.
