NASA has selected a range of organizations across the United States to receive ‘Moon Tree’ seedlings that orbited the Moon on the Artemis I mission in 2022. These organizations were chosen for their ability to care for the trees and use them as educational tools in their communities. The seedlings, part of a diverse array of tree species, represent a continuation of the legacy of the original Moon Trees from the Apollo 14 mission. Institutions will receive their seedlings in phases starting this spring, with subsequent distributions in fall 2024, spring 2025, and fall 2025. The initiative, led by NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement and the USDA Forest Service, aims to inspire future generations in science and environmental stewardship. Celebrations and educational programs will accompany the planting of these trees, fostering community involvement and scientific curiosity.–News Desk
