Majority of Delegations Walk Out Before Netanyahu’s UN Speech

Mass Protest Over Gaza Crisis

ISTANBUL – In a striking show of protest, most state delegations left the UN General Assembly on Friday shortly before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the podium.

Netanyahu began his address to the Assembly’s 80th session at 1300 GMT, but large sections of the hall had already emptied.

The coordinated walkout was staged in response to Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza. Since October 2023, the conflict has killed more than 65,000 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children.

Call for Accountability

Delegates who walked out sought to draw global attention to what they describe as Israel’s genocide against the people of Gaza. The action reflected growing frustration within the international community over the rising civilian death toll and the humanitarian crisis that has left the enclave in ruins.

Rising International Tensions

The protest underscored the deep divisions within the UN regarding Israel’s military campaign. While Netanyahu delivered his remarks, many nations made their position clear by refusing to remain in the hall, signaling mounting diplomatic pressure on Israel and its allies.
