The death toll from severe floods and mudslides along the Nepal-China border has risen to 1,410, while more than 5,650 people remain missing, according to official figures released Wednesday.
Nepali authorities recovered another 10 bodies from areas affected by the disaster, which struck the border region late last month. Of those still missing, 848 are foreign nationals, according to combined figures from Nepal and China.
Nepal has recovered 1,367 bodies from the affected districts, while 5,132 people, including 587 foreigners, are still unaccounted for, according to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
Rescue operations have saved more than 13,600 people so far, with some survivors rescued as recently as the previous weekend.
On the Chinese side, the death toll from massive mudslides in the southwestern Xizang Autonomous Region, also known as Tibet, stands at 43. Authorities report that another 519 people, including 261 foreigners, remain missing.
