LAGOS, Nigeria — The death toll from the devastating floods that have swept across Nigeria since August 16 has risen to 49, with at least 470 people injured, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The agency’s flood dashboard, updated on Monday, highlighted the severe impact on the northern states of Jigawa, Adamawa, and Taraba following days of intense rainfall.
NEMA reports that a total of 43,519 people have been displaced by the floods, which have caused widespread destruction across the affected regions. Ezekiel Manzo, a NEMA spokesperson, confirmed that the agency has been closely monitoring the escalating flood situation nationwide. “NEMA monitoring teams are assessing the flood situations, especially after the alert regarding the rise in water levels,” Manzo said.
The flooding in Nigeria is part of a broader crisis affecting West and Central Africa, where hundreds have died and thousands have been displaced due to severe floods in countries including Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Chad.–News Desk
