UPS Cargo Plane Crash in Kentucky Kills Nine and Injures Several
Tragic Crash During Takeoff
At least nine people lost their lives when a UPS cargo plane crashed during takeoff at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on Tuesday evening, according to Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
The governor confirmed that the plane’s three crew members were likely among the victims. The aircraft exploded shortly after takeoff around 5:15 p.m. local time (10:15 p.m. GMT), sending flames and thick black smoke into the air.
Multiple Injuries Reported
In addition, officials reported that at least 11 people sustained injuries in the crash. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities stated that several survivors suffered “very significant” injuries. Search and rescue teams continued to work through the night to locate any remaining victims.
Governor Extends Condolences
Governor Beshear expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and praised first responders for their quick action. He assured the public that state and federal agencies are cooperating closely to investigate the cause of the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have both launched inquiries into the incident.
