Pakistan Sends 100 Tonnes of Tents and Tarpaulins to Gaza
28th Relief Flight Brings Total Aid to 2,727 Tonnes
Pakistan has dispatched a special flight carrying 100 tonnes of tents and tarpaulins to support Palestinians in Gaza, following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in coordination with the Alkhidmat Foundation, organised the shipment. The cargo was flown from Lahore to El Arish International Airport for onward delivery to Gaza, according to Radio Pakistan on Monday.
Send-Off Ceremony at Lahore
A send-off ceremony was held at Allama Iqbal International Airport, attended by Punjab Housing Minister MPA Mian Bilal Yasin, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and representatives from NDMA.
Continuous Humanitarian Assistance
NDMA confirmed that this flight marks Pakistan’s 28th relief consignment for Gaza, bringing the total humanitarian aid to 2,727 tonnes.
Pakistan began sending humanitarian flights via Egypt soon after the conflict erupted in October 2023, following Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, which led to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
The first batch of aid—100 tonnes of medical supplies, tents, and blankets—was sent from Islamabad to Egypt on October 19, 2023, for transfer to Gaza.
El Arish International Airport continues to serve as a key transit hub. In January 2024, Pakistan delivered 20 tonnes of aid via the same route, which was handed to the Egyptian Red Crescent Society for onward distribution to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society in Gaza.
