PCB Moves 2025 Champions Trophy to Dubai Due to Stadium Delays

The 2025 Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin on February 19, was initially planned to be hosted across Pakistan and Dubai. However, due to delays in stadium renovations in Pakistan, the entire tournament might now be moved to Dubai. The stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi were under construction, with work beginning in August last year. Though the renovation was supposed to be completed by December 31, progress has been slower than expected.

Despite the setbacks, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) assured that the venues would be ready before the deadline of January 25. In a public statement, the PCB emphasized that all upgrades are on track and will be finished on time. As part of their preparation, the PCB moved an upcoming ODI tri-nation series to Lahore and Karachi to showcase their readiness.

Although matches initially planned for Pakistan will now take place in the country, the tournament could still see all of India’s games held in Dubai. The group stage, where Pakistan’s cities were set to host, will go on as scheduled in Pakistan. However, the location of the final depends on India’s performance. If India qualifies, the final will be in Dubai; if not, it will be held in Lahore. The PCB’s actions suggest they are working hard to ensure the event’s success, despite the hurdles.
