The federal government has authorized special powers for the Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest set for November 24. Under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, the forces will assist local police in maintaining order during the demonstration in Islamabad.
The Ministry of Interior’s directive confirms that the Rangers and FC will support Islamabad police to ensure security across the city. Additionally, law enforcement agencies from Punjab and Sindh have been requested to assist, with two Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) and ten District Police Officers (DPOs) sent from Punjab, accompanied by 500 officers each.
To further bolster security, 2,000 personnel from the Sindh and Punjab Constabulary will be deployed, along with anti-riot units from Punjab police and Rangers. A total of 4,000 Rangers and 5,000 FC personnel will be stationed in Islamabad for the protest, equipped with anti-riot gear.
In Punjab, 10,700 officers are on standby, and additional personnel have been mobilized to ensure law and order during PTI’s planned protest.
