Russia announced on Wednesday that it had intercepted and downed 45 Ukrainian drones in a series of overnight attacks targeting various regions, including the capital, Moscow. According to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, 11 drones were shot down over Moscow, and another three were intercepted over the neighboring Kaluga region.
In addition to the drones downed in the Moscow area, 23 drones were reportedly intercepted over the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine. The ministry also claimed that six drones were destroyed over Belgorod and two more over Kursk, both of which are regions adjacent to Ukraine.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed that there were no casualties or damage from the attacks but described the incident as “one of the largest attempts to attack Moscow with drones ever.”
Ukrainian authorities have yet to respond to the claims. However, Ukraine’s General Staff reported hitting a Russian S-300 missile defense system near Novoshakhtinsk in the Rostov region. Rostov Governor Vasily Golubev mentioned on Telegram that a missile was downed in the western part of the region, with no casualties or damage reported according to preliminary information.–News Desk
