Russia Considers Nationwide Diesel Export Ban Amid Fuel Supply Concerns

Russia is considering a complete ban on diesel exports as authorities seek to stabilize domestic fuel supplies during a period of increased seasonal demand, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a government meeting chaired by President Vladimir Putin, Novak described the domestic fuel market as challenging but manageable, noting that officials have prepared measures to ensure adequate supplies across the country.

According to Novak, major oil companies have increased fuel production and regional deliveries, while smaller refineries have also expanded output to help meet rising demand. The government is additionally encouraging more fuel to remain in the domestic market through regulatory and tax-related measures.

The potential export ban follows a series of recent steps aimed at protecting local fuel supplies. Earlier this month, Russia temporarily restricted aviation fuel exports through November, while several regions introduced limits on fuel sales amid supply pressures.

Some fuel producers have also imposed temporary restrictions at filling stations following reported disruptions to refining operations. Ukrainian officials have claimed responsibility for a number of drone strikes targeting Russian energy infrastructure, including refineries and fuel storage facilities.

Russian authorities continue to monitor the fuel market closely as they evaluate additional measures to maintain stability and prevent shortages during the peak summer season.
