Russia has rejected British accusations that it was involved in the drone incident at Leipzig Airport in Germany, describing the allegations as unsupported and politically motivated.
Russian charge d’affaires in the UK Vasily Tsyganov was summoned to the British Foreign Office on Thursday, where British officials formally protested over Moscow’s alleged role in the incident. According to the Russian Embassy in London, Tsyganov denied the accusations and said Britain had not provided convincing evidence.
The Russian side called the Leipzig incident a “coordinated provocation” designed to increase tensions across Europe. Moscow claimed that such developments could benefit Ukraine and its supporters.
The Russian Embassy said Moscow did not want confrontation with Britain or other European nations but warned that any further steps that increase tensions would receive what it described as an appropriate and measured response.
The dispute follows growing diplomatic tensions between Russia and Germany over the August 4 drone incident at Leipzig Airport, where Ukrainian cargo aircraft were reportedly involved.
Germany formally accused Russia of responsibility on Tuesday and announced a series of measures against Moscow. These included plans to close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn, end a German Russian agreement on cultural centers and shut down the Russian House in Berlin. Russian diplomatic staff and their families were also ordered to leave Germany.
