Russia sanctions nine New Zealand officials

MOSCOW

On Tuesday, Russia labeled nine senior military officials from New Zealand, including several deputy defense ministers, as persona non grata, according to the Foreign Ministry.

These sanctions are a response to New Zealand’s restrictive measures against Russian individuals and entities, the ministry stated.

“In retaliation for politically motivated sanctions imposed by the New Zealand government on Russian individuals and organizations, entry to the Russian Federation is indefinitely barred for these additional nine New Zealanders from the leadership of the Defense Ministry and armed forces, who are advancing an anti-Russian agenda in their country,” the statement read.

The ministry also noted that it reserves the right to further expand this list and implement additional measures.
