Russia: West Signed Dollar’s ‘Death Warrant’

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Monday that the West has effectively signed a “death warrant” for the US dollar by weaponizing it against geopolitical competitors. Lavrov remarked that by using the dollar as a tool for control and punishment, Western nations are undermining its role as a global reserve currency.

Speaking at an international science fiction symposium in Moscow, Lavrov criticized the US and its allies for abandoning the globalization ideals they once championed, saying that Western countries have dismissed principles like fair competition and property rights when it suits them.

While he emphasized that Russia remains open to dialogue, Lavrov expressed distrust, citing what he sees as the West’s abandonment of commitments and agreements with Moscow. He asserted that Eurasian nations should shape their own futures without outside interference, contributing to a multipolar global order.

Lavrov indicated that if Western countries decide to re-engage with a foundation of mutual respect and fair interests, Russia will consider their proposals based on its national priorities. He also noted that progress toward establishing multipolar coexistence is slow, but discussions on this topic will continue at international forums, including the upcoming G-20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Lavrov closed by accusing the West of pursuing unilateral benefits, using all means at its disposal to maintain an advantage.
