Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev has reportedly met with US representatives in New York as Moscow and Washington seek to maintain diplomatic communication and efforts toward resolving the Ukraine conflict.
CNN, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that Dmitriev met Thursday with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law. The discussions reportedly focused on continued cooperation between Russia and the United States and ongoing efforts to pursue peace in Ukraine.
Russian state news agency RIA also reported Friday that Dmitriev was in New York. He was reportedly seen outside a Manhattan hotel after arriving in a convoy accompanied by police and special forces vehicles.
Neither the Russian nor US governments have officially confirmed Dmitriev’s visit or the reported meeting.
The reported discussions came as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly session.
Earlier this month, Witkoff and Kushner travelled to Moscow and held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin described the meeting, which lasted more than three hours, as substantive, constructive and exceptionally frank.
