MAKKAH — In a landmark development for regional security and strategic cooperation, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan signed a comprehensive mutual defence pact on Friday, establishing a collective security alliance under which an armed attack against any single signatory will be treated as an attack on all three nations.
The treaty was finalized during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence, convened at Al-Safa Palace in the holy city of Makkah on August 7, 2026 (24 Safar 1448H). The high-level gathering was held following an invitation extended by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, hosted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to discuss mutual strategic interests and formalize the historic alliance.
The centerpiece of the summit was the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, President Erdoğan, and Prime Minister Sharif. Grounded in longstanding historical ties, shared strategic goals, and enduring bonds of Islamic solidarity, the accord establishes a joint deterrence framework intended to preserve stability across the region and beyond.
Under the terms of the accord, the three governments agreed to treat any armed aggression targeting one member state as a collective threat requiring mutual defence. Beyond the mutual defense commitment, the agreement mandates a broad expansion of overall military cooperation, encompassing enhanced joint defence initiatives, strategic coordination, and deeper operational integration among the three nations’ security forces.
During their deliberations at Al-Safa Palace, the leaders reviewed the trajectory of trilateral relations and addressed key issues impacting global and regional security. They emphasized that the newly forged alliance is designed to foster long-term peace, deter prospective external threats, and ensure a secure, prosperous future for their respective populations.–News Desk
