Saim Ayub Nominated for ICC Emerging Cricketer of 2024

Pakistan’s rising star, Saim Ayub, has earned a nomination for the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2024, showcasing his meteoric rise in international cricket. Ayub is one of four contenders for this prestigious award, which celebrates the brightest new talents in the game.

Throughout 2024, Ayub’s aggressive batting style has made a lasting impression across all formats. In just 41 innings, he amassed 1,254 runs, including three centuries and a half-century in nine One-Day International matches. His impressive consistency and ability to adapt to different conditions have made him one of Pakistan’s most exciting young prospects.

The young opener’s breakout year included being named Player of the Series during Pakistan’s dominant 3-0 win over South Africa, which propelled him to 23rd in the ICC rankings—jumping an impressive 57 spots. With two centuries in the series, Ayub has solidified his reputation as one of cricket’s brightest emerging talents.

Ayub faces strong competition from three other outstanding young cricketers. England’s Gus Atkinson, a fast bowler, made waves by claiming 52 wickets in just 11 matches, establishing himself as one of the most exciting young pacers in world cricket. Also in the running are Shamar Joseph from the West Indies, who took 29 wickets in 8 Test matches, and Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka, a batting all-rounder who scored 1,451 runs in 32 matches.

The nominees, announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 28, 2024, will vie for the title, with the winners to be revealed in January 2025. Alongside the Emerging Cricketer of the Year award, the ICC will present accolades in 12 categories to honor the standout performers of 2024.
