Somalia Rejects Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland
Somalia has strongly rejected Israel’s decision to recognise Somaliland as a state, calling the move a clear violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Somali federal government reaffirmed its commitment to national unity and stressed that Somaliland remains an integral part of Somalia under international law.
Government Reaffirms Territorial Integrity
The Prime Minister’s Office said Somalia does not accept any unilateral recognition of its breakaway region. It urged international actors to respect Somalia’s sovereignty and avoid actions that could undermine stability in the Horn of Africa.
Officials warned that recognising Somaliland risks encouraging political fragmentation and could weaken ongoing efforts to promote peace and unity in the region.
Call for International Respect
Somalia also called on the global community to adhere to established international principles regarding statehood and borders. The government reiterated that only Somalia’s federal institutions have the authority to represent the country on the international stage.
