Stage Collapse at Nuevo Leon Rally Kills 9, Injures 50

MEXICO CITY — At least nine people were killed and 50 injured when strong winds caused a stage to collapse during an event in Nuevo Leon state, northern Mexico, on Wednesday. The tragedy occurred at a rally supporting Mexican presidential candidate Jorge Alvarez Maynez, who was unharmed.

Governor Samuel Garcia reported that the victims included eight adults and one child, with three of the injured requiring surgery. Garcia also advised residents to stay indoors due to ongoing thunderstorms and strong winds in the area.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador expressed his condolences and support to those affected. “I embrace the families, friends of the victims, and sympathizers of this organization. We remain vigilant,” he stated on X.

Jorge Alvarez Maynez, the presidential candidate for the Movimiento Ciudadano Party, confirmed he is in stable condition at a hospital. “I am well and in communication with state authorities to follow up on what happened. The only important thing right now is to attend to the accident victims,” he said.–News Desk
