The Syrian army has taken control of the Qasrak Air Base in northeastern Syria following the withdrawal of US-led coalition forces from the facility, according to an official statement released on Thursday.
The Syrian Ministry of Defence confirmed through the state news agency SANA that government troops had assumed control of the base located in the countryside of Hasakah after US forces vacated the site.
Local reports indicated that shortly after the withdrawal, individuals linked to the YPG/SDF allegedly set fire to several vehicles within the base. The facility was subsequently secured by Syrian government forces.
Despite the handover at Qasrak, US forces continue to maintain a presence in parts of northeastern Syria, including security positions in Qamishli and Hasakah, as well as at the Istirahat al Wazir base.
