Trump Criticizes NATO Over Lack of Support on Iran Issue
Strong Remarks from US President
Donald Trump has sharply criticized NATO, stating that the alliance has done “absolutely nothing” to support the United States regarding tensions with Iran.
In a post shared on his platform, Truth Social, Trump said the US does not depend on NATO. However, he urged people to remember what he described as a critical moment in the alliance’s history.
Calls for International Support
In recent days, Trump has called on both allies and rivals, including China, to help secure the Strait of Hormuz. This route plays a key role in global trade, especially oil transportation.
However, several European nations declined to join the effort. They argued that the conflict with Iran began without proper consultation with US allies.
Ongoing Friction with NATO
Trump has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with NATO’s role. Earlier, he described the alliance’s position as a serious mistake and suggested that the United States could reconsider its membership.
Although he confirmed that he is not planning an immediate withdrawal, he said the option remains open.
Remarks at White House Meeting
Later, during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump again voiced disappointment. He publicly stated that NATO had failed to provide meaningful support.
In addition, he argued that the alliance would not come to the United States’ aid in times of need. He also repeated a long-standing claim, saying he had described NATO as ineffective many years ago.
Longstanding Criticism of Alliance
Trump has often criticized NATO, even during his earlier presidency. Reports from that time suggested he had considered withdrawing from the alliance.
His latest comments highlight ongoing tensions between the United States and its NATO partners, especially over global security issues.
