Ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has announced an additional $125 million in security assistance to address Ukraine’s critical defense needs. This marks the sixty-fourth tranche of military aid provided by the Biden Administration from DoD inventories since August 2021, reflecting the ongoing commitment to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
The latest Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package includes a range of essential military equipment aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. Key items in the package include:
- Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (c-UAS) equipment and munitions
- Ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS)
- 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition
- Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) missiles
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems
- High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) ambulances
- Small arms ammunition
- Medical equipment
- Demolitions equipment and munitions
- Spare parts, ancillary equipment, services, training, and transportation
This latest aid package underscores the U.S. commitment to Ukraine’s defense as the nation prepares to mark its Independence Day on August 24, more than two and a half years after Russia’s full-scale invasion. The support from the United States, alongside a coalition of around 50 Allies and partners, remains crucial in enabling Ukraine’s continued resistance against Russian forces.
