UAE Declares January 1 Public Holiday for All Workers

UAE Announces January 1 Public Holiday for All Workers

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has confirmed that January 1, 2025, will be an official public holiday for all private-sector employees, aligning with the UAE Cabinet’s decision on holiday schedules for both government and private workers.

The holiday, falling on a Wednesday, will mark the first official break of 2025 for government employees, as per the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources. This announcement is part of a broader public holiday schedule, with up to 13 days off anticipated throughout the year.

Notably, changes are ahead for the Islamic holiday of Eid Al Fitr in 2025. For the first time in years, the Eid break will be shorter, with only up to four days off instead of the longer breaks of previous years. Depending on the length of Ramadan, the Eid holiday will either last from the last day of Ramadan to the third day of Shawwal or just the first three days of Shawwal.

Additionally, the UAE will observe Arafah Day on Dhul Hijjah 9 and a three-day break for Eid Al Adha from Dhul Hijjah 10-12, offering more extended time off for residents.

These changes reflect the UAE’s ongoing effort to provide a well-structured and predictable holiday schedule, allowing residents and businesses to plan their year accordingly.
