UNICEF has strongly condemned the killing of two water truck drivers in northern Gaza Strip, calling for an immediate investigation into the incident.
In a statement, the agency said the drivers, who were contracted to supply clean water to civilians, were killed by Israeli fire while carrying out routine operations at the Mansoura water filling station. The site is a critical facility and remains the only functioning truck filling point linked to the Mekorot water supply network serving Gaza City.
UNICEF said the attack occurred without any prior changes to operational procedures or movement, stressing that the drivers were engaged in regular humanitarian work at the time.
The agency highlighted the importance of the facility, which is used multiple times daily by humanitarian organizations to deliver water to hundreds of thousands of residents, including large numbers of children.
Reaffirming international humanitarian principles, UNICEF stressed that civilians, aid workers, and essential infrastructure must not be targeted under any circumstances. It urged Israeli authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry and ensure accountability for those responsible.
The organization emphasized that safeguarding humanitarian personnel is a legal obligation under international law, warning that such incidents further threaten already fragile relief efforts in Gaza.
