The United States military has carried out a targeted strike on a vessel suspected of involvement in drug trafficking operations in the Caribbean, according to US Southern Command.
The operation was executed on Sunday by Joint Task Force Southern Spear under orders from SOUTHCOM commander General Francis L Donovan. Officials said intelligence assessments identified the vessel as moving along established narcotics trafficking routes and actively engaged in illicit operations.
According to a statement released by SOUTHCOM, three male suspects described as “narco terrorists” were killed during the strike. No US personnel were reported injured.
The action forms part of a broader US military campaign aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks across the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean regions. In recent months, American forces have conducted dozens of similar operations, resulting in over 150 deaths, based on official figures.
However, the campaign has drawn scrutiny from some analysts who have questioned the legal basis and oversight of such military actions in international waters.
