WASHINGTON, D.C.—The USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group has arrived in the U.S. Central Command’s area of operations, joining the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group in the region, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh announced today. The deployment of the Lincoln group follows an order from Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III to accelerate its movement earlier this month.
This strategic move is part of broader adjustments to U.S. military posture aimed at ensuring force protection, enhancing support for Israel’s defense, and preparing the United States to respond to a range of potential contingencies in the volatile region. The arrival of the Lincoln group bolsters the already significant U.S. military presence, which includes an Air Force F-22 Raptor squadron and the USS Georgia, a cruise missile submarine, both positioned to counter threats from Iran or Iranian-backed proxies.
The increased U.S. military presence may be influencing the calculations of Iranian officials, who have recently made threats against Israel. Singh emphasized that U.S. forces are well-prepared to respond to any potential aggression while continuing to focus on efforts to de-escalate tensions and secure a ceasefire in Gaza as part of ongoing negotiations to bring hostages home.
In addition to the developments in the Middle East, Singh reiterated the United States’ commitment to supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia. She confirmed that the U.S. will continue to provide military aid through presidential drawdown authority packages and ongoing training for Ukrainian forces as they counter Russian aggression in regions such as Kursk and Donbas.
The deployment of the Lincoln Strike Group and continued support for Ukraine underscore the U.S.’s dual focus on maintaining regional stability in the Middle East and backing Ukraine in its defense against Russian occupation.–News Desk
