Tournament Overview

The 13th ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup kicks off on Tuesday, 30 September 2025. England aims to claim its fifth title, while defending champions Australia hold the record with seven wins. New Zealand is the only other nation to have won the trophy, lifting it 25 years ago.

What Is the Women’s World Cup?

The Women’s Cricket World Cup is the premier event in women’s cricket, held every four years. This year, eight teams compete, with the number set to rise to ten in 2029. The participating nations are Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

India and Sri Lanka co-host the tournament, with Pakistan playing all matches in Colombo due to current political tensions with India.

Schedule and Format

Each match is 50 overs per side. Teams face each other once in a round-robin group stage. The top four teams advance to the semi-finals, where the first-placed team faces the fourth, and the second plays the third.

India and Sri Lanka open the tournament on 30 September in Guwahati. England starts its campaign against South Africa on 3 October in the same city. Australia begins against New Zealand in Indore on 1 October, and later faces hosts India in Visakhapatnam on 12 October, followed by England in the Ashes clash on 22 October in Indore.

Colombo will host all of Pakistan’s seven group matches, including games against India and England. Semi-finals and the final will also take place in Colombo if Pakistan advances.
